Lucky Numbers or Just Showing Off?

What goes with an expensive car besides the stereotype sexy ladies in skimpy clothes? Expensive plate numbers, of course! The "thing" to do in Thailand when you have a sports car or any other luxurious vehicle is to get a very expensive plate number. Some actually cost more than the vehicle itself! And some people would wait for MONTHS just to get the number they want. Some are bought in auctions...woo-pee!

Most famous number are repetitive number such as 111, 999 and 555. The number one is always a good thing. Number 9 is believed to bring you luck and will bring you forward to better things as 9 in Thai is called "kao", which also can mean "stepping forward". Number 5 is "ha". This is called "the happy plate". So a plate number bearing 555 means "ha ha ha". Hopefully it means the driver of the car would always stay in a good mood during traffic! Let's check out some of the nice cars with their nice plates:

If your car has any of these numbers, most likely cops wouldn't dare stop you for any driving violation. Why? Because only "big" people are able to afford these kind of plate numbers. Don't you mess with the BIG people, now!
